Industrial Electrical Estimator – Semiconductor Facility Construction
Location:
Tempe, AZ
Company:
Quality “Plus” Services (QPS)
Employment Type:
Full-Time
Industry:
Semiconductor / Industrial Electrical Construction
Position Overview QPS is seeking an experienced Industrial Electrical Estimator with a strong background in semiconductor facility construction to support complex, high-tech projects in the Tempe region. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of industrial electrical systems, cleanroom environments, tool install requirements, and high-purity utility interfaces common to semiconductor manufacturing construction.
This role is responsible for preparing accurate, detailed electrical estimates for large-scale industrial and mission-critical facilities, collaborating with project managers, engineers, vendors, and clients to deliver competitive bids that reflect high-quality execution and QPS standards.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed electrical estimates (quantity takeoffs, labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor scopes) for semiconductor fabrication plants, tool installs, central utility buildings, cleanrooms, and other high-tech facilities.
Review IFC drawings, P&IDs, one-lines, specifications, BIM models, and semiconductor design packages.
Interpret complex semiconductor tool install requirements, including power distribution, controls, trays, cable routing, grounding, and high-purity system interfaces.
Evaluate design changes, addenda, RFIs, and VE opportunities.
Develop conceptual, ROM, and full GMP estimates based on varying levels of design development.
Identify constructability concerns and scope gaps in design documents.
Prepare comprehensive bid packages including scope narratives, clarifications, inclusions/exclusions, and risk assessments.
Solicit, analyze, and level subcontractor and supplier proposals.
Work with preconstruction and project management teams to develop bid strategies and competitive pricing models.
Attend pre-bid meetings, site walks, and client discussions to confirm requirements and validate scope.
Provide estimating support to project teams during handoff, buyout, and early construction phases.
Work closely with engineering, scheduling, procurement, and field leadership to ensure estimates are aligned with execution plans.
Participate in lessons-learned reviews to improve future estimating accuracy.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of estimating experience in industrial electrical construction (semiconductor experience strongly preferred).
Strong understanding of semiconductor facility environments: Cleanrooms (ISO classifications), Fab tool electrical requirements, high-density power distribution, control systems, instrumentation and interlocks, mission-critical power redundancy.
Proficiency in electrical estimating software (Accubid, McCormick, Trimble, or similar).
Ability to read and interpret complex electrical drawings, sequence-of-operations documentation, and equipment cut sheets.
Strong Excel and quantitative analysis skills.
Excellent communication, proposal writing, and teamwork abilities.
Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, and semiconductor construction safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications
Semiconductor fab construction estimating experience for Tier 1 clients (TSMC, Intel, Micron, Samsung, etc.).
Experience in tool install, high-purity system integration, subfab, and central utility plant electrical systems.
Experience in BIM/VDC environments and model-based quantity extraction.
Engineering background: Electrical Engineering or Construction Management degree preferred.
Success Traits
High attention to detail with the ability to handle extremely technical, fast-moving scopes.
Strong problem solving and ability to identify risks early.
Ability to work under tight deadlines on multi-phase semiconductor project schedules.
Collaborative mindset with a strong sense of ownership.
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive salary and performance-based incentives.
Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and retirement programs.
Opportunities for advancement within QPS’s industrial and semiconductor project teams.
Company Description QPS is a true multi-craft industrial contractor, providing the efficiency that comes from a single point of contact and allowing for tasks and projects to be carefully tracked and monitored and ensuring a timely and cost-effective completion that is measured in safety and quality of craftsmanship.
