Position Overview As a Junior Estimator, you will prepare accurate cost estimates for commercial underground wet utility projects. You will work closely with senior estimators and project managers to ensure that projects are scoped accurately and priced effectively, support project management, and help ensure cost control throughout the project.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare cost estimates for underground wet utility projects (water, sewer, storm drains, firelines, etc.)
Review project plans, specifications, and contracts to gather necessary information for accurate estimates
Perform accurate quantity take-offs for materials, labor, and equipment
Research and analyze market rates for materials, labor, and subcontractors
Obtain and compare subcontractor, vendor, and supplier pricing
Build and maintain long-term relationships with key vendors
Collaborate with senior estimators, project managers, and clients to review and revise estimates as needed
Support the preparation of bid packages and proposals
Handle multiple bids per week and meet strict deadlines
Conduct site visits to assess conditions and gather information necessary for accurate estimating
Maintain a tracker of all projects and their various stages of the bid process
Help identify potential risks and cost-saving opportunities in project scope and execution
Stay up-to-date on industry trends, standards, and new materials or technologies
Assist with project management during the construction phase as needed
Additional duties may include ordering, purchases, scheduling, RFIs, submittals, blueprints, and change orders
Qualifications
Experience in construction estimating
Experience in underground utilities
Ability to read blueprints
Understanding of MAG specifications and local supplements
Proficiency in office software including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Adobe
Ability to multi-task and good time‑management skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Critical thinker and problem solver
Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team
Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills
Willingness to learn and grow in the field of estimating and construction
Ability to lift or move up to 30 pounds
Capable of working in all outdoor temperatures and weather conditions
Attention to safety and safety standards
Valid driver's license
