Job Overview We are looking for an experienced Welder II to join our Fleet Services Group in Norfolk, VA, beginning around June 2nd. The successful candidate will work on ship repair, modernization, and Alteration Installation Team (AIT) projects.
Duties & Responsibilities
Knowledgeable in joining, fabricating, and repairing metal and other weldable materials using appropriate welding techniques.
Perform various welding processes to repair, modify and install pipes, structures, foundations, and fittings for shipboard hydraulic, pneumatic, and water systems.
Fabricate and install fixtures and jigs required for welding process alignments.
Interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine appropriate welding process.
Select required welding filler materials, joint design, heat ranges and the most effective welding process/procedure to ensure quality welding operations IAW TWD.
Inspect completed welds for structural soundness and adherence to NAVSEA, ABS & AWS standards; install or repair equipment such as pipes, valves, floors and tank linings.
Lead technical project teams, schedule, report and brief customers and senior management.
Perform duties outside of specialty to complete installation or work assignment.
Experience in SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, ship fitting and OXY ACC & propane GAS cutting torch.
Weld multiple types, thicknesses and sizes of pipe, plate and bar material in horizontal, overhead and/or vertical positions.
Required Experience
High school or trade/vocational school degree.
5–10 years of direct experience in ship repair and installation of HM&E systems and equipment.
Ability to read and interpret ship installation drawings, installation specifications and NAVSEA Standard Items preferred.
Must have or be able to obtain a SECRET clearance and base access/security credentials.
Ability to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment (minimum 30 lbs).
Ability to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and confined spaces.
Travel may be required within and outside the continental United States.
Open to U.S. citizens only due to export control regulations.
Demonstrated reliability and punctuality; consistently report to work on time.
Possess basic and some advanced specialized welder tools.
