This full-time, on-site Estimator role in Waunakee, WI focuses on preparing accurate and competitive
structural steel
estimates by reviewing project specifications, drawings, and related documentation. You’ll work closely with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to clarify steel requirements, evaluate risks, and ensure estimates align with project scope, fabrication needs, and budget expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Interpret bid requirements, blueprints, and structural steel fabrication drawings to prepare detailed estimates.
Perform structural steel material take-offs (labor, buy-outs, connection materials) and assess site/erection factors impacting cost.
Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to gather pricing and prepare clear steel scope directives.
Manage multiple steel bids at once, adapting to changes while maintaining accuracy.
Communicate estimates, assumptions, and risks clearly to internal teams and clients.
Qualifications
Experience with FabSuite / Tekla EPM / Bluebeam preferred.
Proven estimating experience in structural steel fabrication and erection preferred.
Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Comfort with complex materials and custom fabrication requirements.
Excellent math skills, attention to detail, and critical thinking abilities.
Strong communication skills for working effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Time management skills to prioritize and meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or at least 1 year of proven experience in steel estimating or fabrication.
