Process Engineer - Water/Wastewater

As a member of Garver's Fayetteville Water Design Center, the Process Engineer will be responsible for taking water and wastewater design engineering projects from conceptual planning to bid‑ready documents under the direction of Senior Process Engineers and Project Managers. This includes design calculations, process and hydraulic modeling, facility and equipment layout development, equipment vendor coordination, and coordination with regional offices and regulatory agencies. The role also involves quality reviews of other teams’ designs.
Responsibilities
Develop conceptual level designs for water and wastewater treatment systems
Develop detailed designs, including contract documents (plans and specifications)
Coordinate with process‑mechanical team for detailed design services for treatment facilities
Prepare design calculations, coordinate with other support disciplines on projects, coordinate with regional Garver offices, and estimate construction costs
Attend client meetings and industry conferences
Support water and wastewater process evaluation, selection, and implementation
Oversee the development of construction drawings and 3D models pertaining to hydraulic structures
Requirements
Master’s degree in civil, environmental, chemical, or biosystems/biological engineering from an ABET accredited program
Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within the next 6 months
2+ years of direct process experience with water/wastewater treatment plant
Solid understanding of drinking water or wastewater treatment processes (biological, chemical, and physical)
Preferred Attributes
5+ years of direct experience with water and wastewater treatment processes
PhD degree in civil, environmental, chemical, or biosystems/biological or related engineering discipline
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
2+ years of experience with open‑channel flow hydraulic modeling
2+ years of experience with biological modeling software (GPS‑X, SUMO, BioWin, etc.)
Strong communication skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams
Strong working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Outlook
Experience working with a multidisciplinary team comprised of civil, structural, building mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation and control disciplines
Active participation in local professional organizations
