Job Summary
Cemstone is a family‑owned business that has been providing high quality ready‑mix concrete in the upper Midwest for nearly 100 years. This Plant Operator role offers an opportunity to join a company with a strong reputation for quality products and a commitment to core values.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Produce ready‑mixed concrete within company and manufacturer specifications while maximizing plant capacity and ensuring drivers are loaded timely.
Communicate with dispatch to ship, load orders, and manage changes.
Order raw materials such as cement, fly ash, chemical admixtures, and aggregates in coordination with the Materials Manager.
Maintain adequate and cost‑effective inventory levels of all products.
Perform quality control functions including moisture checks, slump tests, air entrainment tests, and temperature tests to meet company standards.
Perform end‑of‑day cleanup at the batch plant.
Carry out plant maintenance tasks such as greasing, adjusting, cleaning bag houses, venting systems, shoveling, and conducting plant system checks.
Assist in maintenance of computerized batching equipment, material handling, color computers, and other miscellaneous maintenance as required.
Complete daily paperwork, including production reports as required.
Operate wheel loaders as needed.
Provide back‑up batchman support to other local facilities or portable services during vacation or absences.
Drive ready‑mix or other required vehicles as needed to ensure steady employment.
Maintain effective relationships with company employees, suppliers, and customers, promoting the company’s professional image and ensuring timely problem resolution and customer satisfaction.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Regional Manager.
Qualifications And Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Take direction, instruction, and guidance from supervision and management.
Apply knowledge of mechanical functions of various components and equipment including electrical, pneumatics, compressed air, mixer trucks, batch plant equipment, water systems, and computerized batching equipment.
Handle multiple tasks at one time (batching, phone or radio communication, operating material distribution, reading orders).
Operate computerized batching equipment and be MS Windows proficient subject to a proficiency test.
Have initiative and leadership characteristics.
Work with customers, drivers, and other company personnel in a professional manner.
Handle cash within the company’s audit control system.
