Job Title: Controller

About the Role A growing construction company in Lexington, KY is seeking a hands‑on, detail‑oriented Controller to oversee all accounting and financial operations. This leadership role is ideal for a finance professional with a strong background in construction accounting, financial reporting, and process improvement. The Controller will work closely with company leadership, manage one accounting team member, and independently handle day‑to‑day financial responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and manage all accounting functions, including A/P, A/R, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
Manage cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting to support business objectives.
Ensure compliance with tax regulations, internal controls, and audit requirements.
Collaborate with external auditors, tax advisors, and banks.
Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to improve efficiency.
Provide financial insights and reports to support strategic decision‑making.
Manage project accounting, job costing, and cost tracking for construction projects.
Supervise and mentor one accounting staff member.
Handle ad‑hoc financial projects and adapt to a fast‑paced work environment.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred).
Proven experience as a Controller or Senior Accountant, ideally within the construction industry.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, tax compliance, and financial reporting.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and leadership skills.
Must be local to Lexington, KY and able to work fully on‑site.
