Senior Development Accountant
A successful Manhattan based real estate investor, and developer seeks a
Senior Development Accountant
to handle accounting and reporting for several sophisticated ground up development projects. The company offers a very collaborative and stable work environment, as well as comprehensive benefits and perks.
Responsibilities
Oversee project budgeting and forecasting, proactively monitoring costs and identifying potential variances or overruns.
Track and manage all project-related expenditures, including subcontractor and vendor invoices, payment processing, and job cost analysis.
Prepare and deliver accurate financial statements, Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, variance analysis, and ad‑hoc reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
Serve as a financial partner to Project Managers, providing insight, guidance, and support to drive sound financial decision‑making.
Manage month‑end close activities, including reconciliations, journal entries, and overall close support.
Coordinate and process construction loan draws, ensuring proper tracking and general ledger posting.
Handle project‑specific accounts payable and receivable, including billings and collections.
Maintain and manage the project accounting system (Sage 300/Timberline), including job cost structures and chart of accounts.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, construction accounting standards, and internal controls.
Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to audit requests.
Experience / Requirements
5+ years of relevant experience at a reputable real estate company handling real estate development and construction projects.
Good understanding of construction draws and bank requisitions.
Month‑end and year‑end closings and adjusting entries.
Strong and effective communicator.
Highly organized and detail oriented.
Working knowledge of Sage 300/Timberline preferred.
Compensation:
$120,000 – $150,000 plus bonus, 401(k) match, comprehensive health benefits and other valuable perks.
