Our client, Zack Painting Company, is a family‑owned business that is seeking an experienced

Controller

to oversee all financial operations. This is a full‑time, onsite position based in Fords, NJ, with a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Position Summary This role is responsible for managing accounting processes, financial reporting, job costing, budgeting, and internal controls while supporting strategic decision‑making. The ideal candidate will have construction industry experience and a hands‑on approach.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements

Analyze financial results and provide insights to ownership and leadership

Manage month‑end and year‑end close processes

Job Costing & Project Accounting

Monitor job costing, work‑in‑progress (WIP) schedules, and project profitability

Ensure accurate tracking of labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead

Work closely with project managers to review budgets, forecasts, and variances

Budgeting & Forecasting

Develop annual budgets and financial forecasts

Track performance against budget and recommend corrective actions

Assist ownership with long‑term financial planning and cash flow forecasting

Cash Flow & Banking

Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and credit facilities

Oversee billing, collections, and lien waivers as applicable

Ensure timely vendor payments and payroll processing

Compliance & Controls

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations

Establish and maintain internal controls and accounting policies

Oversee workers’ compensation audits and insurance reporting

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Banking industry or related field

Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience in construction industry

Construction industry is a Must

Familiarity with Foundation or Sage accounting software is preferred

Advanced Excel skills

Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

New Jersey Pay Range: $125,000 USD - $160,000 USD
