Position Overview Oakwood Village has an exciting opportunity for qualified candidates to join our senior living community facility team as a
Horticulture Assistant . Our Horticulture Assistant is responsible for assisting in maintaining all aspects of the outdoor property (campus landscaped with parkland, gardens, ponds and prairie), maintaining indoor plants, and assisting in the preparation work of gardening and horticulture therapy. The position is 40 hours a week Monday through Friday.

Essential Responsibilities
Planting, watering, weeding, deadheading, pruning, transplanting, dividing, soil preparation and pest/disease monitoring for bulbs, annuals, perennials, tropicals, shrubs, and/or trees.
Maintaining indoor plants, including re-potting, light cleaning/organizing, pruning, treating for pests/diseases, watering and fertilizing.
Preparing for and assisting with resident garden groups and other resident garden activities.
Safely operating and maintaining equipment such as utility vehicles, weed trimmers, leaf blowers/vacuums, and landscape hand tools.
Maintaining a clean overall appearance of the property by collecting refuse and debris, and organizing outdoor spaces.
Essential Qualifications
Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. on a regular basis and be outdoors for long periods in possibly inclement weather.
Knowledge of and/or interest in plants, landscaping practices, horticulture and/or ecology.
Able to work independently without additional guidance or monitoring as well as work with individuals or large groups of any age.
Must have an attention to detail and organizational skills.
