Protection Officer (Part-Time)
Reynolda House Museum of American Art
Overview Provides protection to the museum, guests, and staff from criminal activity, fire, safety hazards, or other dangerous situations. Monitors building activities, conducts roving patrols, and responds to incidents. Responsibilities include dynamic interpersonal interaction with visitors, staff, and vendors during normal museum hours as well as special functions, after-hours, and weekend events.
Essential Functions
Maintains knowledge of current policies and procedures to protect the collection, staff, and visitors.
Actively monitors all building areas to ensure safety and security; takes action based on observations.
Detects problems and reports information via the chain of command.
Protects the collection from unauthorized tampering, handling, defacing, touching, or theft.
Responds to fire alarms, intrusion alarms, and panic alarms.
Responds to medical emergencies; administers aid as required.
Receives reports of security/safety incidents, investigates, and completes detailed incident reports.
Responds appropriately to guest conflicts as the first level of conflict management.
Regulates and controls traffic through gallery spaces during regular operations and special events.
Assists in evacuation during emergencies in accordance with current emergency procedures; ensures area security.
Other Functions
Conducts opening and closing building inspections.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
High School graduate or G.E.D. with two years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to successfully complete security training, first aid/CPR, and other training as assigned by the Director of Security.
Proficient use of computer for report writing, email, timekeeping, scheduling.
Willingness to work flexible shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays; weekend availability required.
Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare accurate detailed reports.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or other emergency services.
Accountabilities
Works under general supervision; reports to the Security Manager.
Physical Requirements Performs bending, climbing, crouching, kneeling, reaching, pushing and pulling up to 20 pounds; standing or walking for long periods; may assist guests in emergency evacuation.
Environmental Conditions Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions; occasional extreme heat and cold; hazards.
