Job Summary The
STEPS Accessibility Compliance Associate
supports Cooperative Extension’s efforts to achieve and maintain full digital accessibility compliance under ADA Title II and WCAG 2.1 AA standards. This project-focused role will help bring Extension websites, digital documents, and communication materials into alignment with legal and institutional requirements. This position will work closely with the Cooperative Extension Marketing Director, the Martin‑Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment Agricultural Communications Department and campus partners to conduct accessibility reviews, perform document and web content remediation (including, for example, of newsletters, flyers, and other digital content), and assist in developing and delivering accessibility training programs. The role ensures that all digital assets meet required accessibility standards and supports a consistent, compliant user experience across platforms. The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge of Drupal 9, digital accessibility standards, hands‑on experience with accessibility evaluation and remediation, and the ability to effectively guide and train staff to create compliant content.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Proficiency in Drupal 9
WCAG 2.1 AA standards and success criteria
ADA Title II and how it applies to digital accessibility requirements for public institutions
Understanding of web development fundamentals
Skill in using accessibility evaluation tools
Document remediation skills for: PDFs (tagging, reading order, alt text, structure), Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, Other common digital formats
Ability to create accessible multimedia, including captions, transcripts, and accessible slide decks
Web content remediation skills (headings, ARIA attributes, semantic HTML, color contrast fixes, keyboard navigation considerations)
Knowledge of how assistive technologies interact with digital content (i.e., Screen readers, keyboard‑only navigation, screen magnifiers, etc.)
Skill in preparing and delivering training sessions, workshops, or tutorials for nontechnical staff
Collaboration skills
Attention to detail
