Job Overview Fiber Installation Technician (Cable Installer) works both inside and outside the home, responsible for the installation and customer experience of new Broadband integrated digital TV, high speed Internet, and voice services.

A New Service Order May Include
Connecting fiber optic jumpers and drops (aerial, buried, and plenum)
Running temporary fiber drop in a manner that does not pose a safety hazard to the public
Splicing of fiber drop connectors
Installation of ONT and power supplies
Running or reusing COAX or CAT5 wiring, including burying CAT5/COAX up to 50 ft.
Verification of service
Internet Service
Installation of internet hubs and routers
Utilization of MOCA technology
Running or reusing CAT5 or COAX
Configuring customer‑owned computers
Educating customers about internet access
Verification of service
If Video Service Is Ordered
Running COAX cable to TV boxes
Running CAT5E cable from routers to network interface modules
Taking DB loss readings at all splitter points and terminated ends
Initializing set‑up box for activation on fiber network
Programming remote controls
Educating customers on video products and services
Job Requirements
Valid state driver’s license and non‑negligent driving record
Meet safety restriction weight limit of 275 lbs.
Ability to lift and move up to 100 lbs.
Work flexible hours; workdays may exceed normal hours, with some weekend and holiday work required
Pass pre‑employment background check and drug/alcohol screen
Ability to visually perceive differences in wire and cable colors
Complete on‑the‑job and/or classroom training to remain competitive
Be “on call” and “on standby” relative to workload
Special Requirements
Demonstrate knowledge of computer operating systems (MS 98SE, 2000, XP and above)
Experience cabling various electronic components (modems, routers, TVs, stereo systems, home entertainment systems)
Experience working with CAT 5 and COAX wiring
Provide efficient, quality customer service to both internal and external customers face‑to‑face and over the phone
Recognize and identify sales opportunities that meet customer and company needs, promoting and closing sales of products and services
Basic knowledge of electricity as it relates to telecommunications, including principles, theories, application, components, and measurement instruments
Working knowledge of hand and power tools
Work well with others, foster a cooperative climate, and work independently with little supervision
Perform job activities outdoors in varying weather conditions (extreme cold/heat, inclement weather)
When working aloft, employee’s weight and tools combined may not exceed the 280‑pound weight limit specified by the manufacturer
Physical Demands
Stand, talk, hear, use hands and reach with arms
Frequent walking (10%), sitting (5%), climbing (10%), balancing (5%), standing (15%), stooping (5%), kneeling (5%), driving (20%), reaching (10%), smelling (5%)
