Position Overview As a Senior Aerial Construction Technician – Fiber Optics, you will lead and perform complex installations, maintenance, and repairs of overhead fiber lines. Responsibilities include stringing, pulling, tensioning, stranding, spacing fiber optic cables, pole transfers, strand building, lashing, make‑readies, and equipment mounting. You will troubleshoot issues, enhance operational efficiency, and guide team members in completing critical projects at heights and in confined spaces.
What You’ll Do
Safely perform work in communication and energized spaces.
Inspect, mobilize, and operate a bucket truck from the cab.
Record and report the sequential footmarks by the operator or groundman.
Frame poles and provide framing and attachment hardware.
Pull cable, strand, fiber, and lash for extended periods.
Monitor tension and pressure on the cable lines; ensure proper tension during critical turning points and transitions.
Identify and navigate the crew into energized spaces.
Read, interpret, and modify design packages.
Oversee 3rd‑party optical ground wire (OPGW) installation.
Lead, mentor, and train field personnel.
Working Conditions
Walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb ladders and stairs, crawl, kneel.
Climb poles; carry, set up, and extend ladders weighing up to 65 lb; work on utility poles up to 60 ft in height.
Work indoors, outdoors, and underground in various weather conditions.
Able to walk long distances.
Able to lift up to 65 lb without assistance.
What You’ll Bring
5+ years of relevant Fiber Optics experience preferred.
Mastery of Aerial Construction Technician II job duties.
Experience with pole climbing and work requiring vertical climbing.
Recognition of general safety hazards and electrical‑specific hazards.
Ability to read and interpret design packages.
Experience in maintaining truck stock materials and completing T&M documentation.
Leadership and project management skills.
Proficiency in proper use and wearing of job‑specific PPE.
Seniority Level Mid‑Senior level.
