Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Licensing Associate – TOV. The Licensing Associate manages activities related to the disclosure and protection of new innovations and the transfer of life sciences related technology from the NYU Grossman School of Medicine and other NYU schools to the marketplace. The role includes regular outreach to the research community, evaluating the commercial potential of research disclosures, identifying commercial partners, working with the TOV Market Analyst to market technologies, negotiating research and license agreements, and promoting the creation of start‑up companies based on NYU technologies.

Job Responsibilities

Meet with researchers to learn about their work, inform them of intellectual property considerations, and solicit invention disclosures.

Evaluate invention disclosures for commercial potential and work with the Director of Intellectual Property, outside counsel, and the inventor to assess patentability and license potential.

Prepare non‑confidential marketing summaries of inventions with the TOV Market Analyst, maintain accurate tracking of marketing efforts through Salesforce or other platforms as instructed.

Identify potential commercial partners, contact key decision makers, and negotiate confidentiality agreements and material transfer agreements to facilitate in‑depth discussions.

Review existing grants and contracts for emerging technologies, initiate discussions with Business Development managers, and ensure protection of intellectual property.

Research and evaluate the active R&D interests of companies, attend conferences, and network with technology licensing and business development personnel.

Assist Business Development Managers in negotiating relevant intellectual property agreements with companies.

Engage with the Start‑Up Manager to ensure collaboration in creating spin‑offs and start‑up companies resulting from commercialization of NYU technologies.

Monitor signed agreements, track licensee obligations, maintain long‑term relationships, and identify the need to amend agreements if necessary.

Maintain consistent and accurate data in the TOV intellectual property database (currently Sophia), including entry of IP‑related agreements, patent information, and financial information.

Assist in regular outreach to the NYU research community to build and maintain long‑term relationships, including regular presentations at the departmental level on the capacity of NYULH to support innovation.

Adhere to all relevant NYULH and NYU policies and behavioral standards.

Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications To qualify you must have a Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering. You must be able to work effectively with senior management, academic scientists, and industry executives; achieve consensus and promote long‑term relationships; possess excellent problem‑solving, collaboration, and oral and written communication skills; be fluent in English; be a highly motivated self‑starter; be detail‑oriented and able to multi‑task; and have a customer‑service mindset. Knowledge of intellectual property law and licensing practices is desirable.

Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. and/or a combination of MBA and industry experience.
