Position Summary Licensing Associate – TOV, managing activities related to disclosure and protection of new innovations and transfer of life‑sciences technology from NYU Grossman School of Medicine and other NYU schools to the marketplace. Regular outreach to the research community to solicit innovation disclosures, assess commercial potential, identify partners, work with Market Analyst to market technologies, negotiate agreements, and promote creation of startup companies.
Job Responsibilities
Meet with researchers to learn of their work, educate them on intellectual property, and encourage invention disclosures.
Evaluate invention disclosures for commercial potential; work with the Director of Intellectual Property, outside counsel, and inventors to assess patentability and license potential.
Prepare non‑confidential marketing summaries with the Market Analyst, circulate to industry, and post on website; maintain tracking of marketing efforts through Salesforce or similar.
Identify potential commercial partners and funding sources, contact key decision‑makers.
Draft and negotiate confidentiality and material transfer agreements with minimal support.
Review existing grants and contracts for emerging technologies, coordinate with Business Development and Director on disclosure or patent requirements.
Research industry interests, schedule meetings, attend conferences to network with licensing personnel.
Assist Business Development Managers in negotiations of intellectual property agreements.
Collaborate with Start‑up Manager to support spin‑off and startup companies.
Monitor signed agreements for milestones, royalties, changes in company focus or resources; maintain relationships, ensure compliance, amend agreements as needed.
Maintain consistent record in TOV intellectual property database (currently Sophia).
Outreach to NYU research community, present on NYULH capacity for innovation.
Adhere to all relevant NYULH and NYU policies and behavioral standards.
Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in science or engineering; ability to work effectively with senior management, academic scientists, and industry executives; strong problem‑solving, collaboration, and oral/written communication skills; English fluency; self‑starter, detail‑oriented, multi‑tasking, customer‑service mindset. Knowledge of intellectual property law and licensing practices desirable.
Preferred Qualifications Ph.D., MBA, and/or industry experience.
