Job Summary The Senior Capital Accountant reports to the Director of Capital Accounting to perform intermediate accounting duties related to fixed assets, the largest balance sheet reporting line, and accounting standards. The position is responsible for capital accounting to ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).

Duties and Responsibilities
Completes month-end close responsibilities.
Engages in advanced capital account analysis and journal entries requiring detailed analysis and understanding.
Coordinates accurate capitalization, depreciation, and disposals of assets, ensuring compliance with company policies for the fixed asset tracking process.
Reconciles the fixed asset sub‑ledger.
Utilizes professional judgement to analyze capital projects, ensuring compliance with capitalization policies.
Completes high‑level projects requiring research, analysis, and professional judgement, primarily for construction and development projects.
Collaborates with cross‑functional teams to ensure accurate asset information and advise on asset‑related issues.
Supports audits by providing data and documentation.
Provides support to team members on capital‑related inquiries and trains new team members on fundamental procedural expectations.
Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the needs of the business.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or related field required.
5+ years of experience in an accounting related field required.
Advanced knowledge of GAAP and fixed asset accounting required.
Preferred Qualifications
Yardi experience preferred.
Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel preferred.
Real estate construction accounting experience preferred.
Sage Premier Depreciation experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Comprehensive understanding of accounting principles to apply GAAP to complex transactions.
High‑level analytical and critical thinking skills, with the capacity to identify trends and discrepancies.
Strong accuracy and diligence with quantitative data and financial calculations.
Customer service orientation to provide effective and efficient support to internal clients.
Ability to effectively communicate complex financial and asset information to non‑financial teams.
Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
Skill and ability to train and mentor less experienced peers.
Skill in applying critical thinking, analysis, and problem‑solving methods.
Skilled in prioritizing multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
Knowledge and ability to operate accounting software applications (e.g., Yardi).
Ability to maintain confidentiality and maintain appropriate discretion.
