Position Overview Riverside Research is seeking a personable and highly technical individual capable of providing information technology support to groups performing cutting‑edge research supporting national security interests. In the role of Systems Administrator, a successful candidate will leverage experience supporting Linux and Windows‑based IT infrastructure as well as DevOps‑oriented tools and processes to provide end‑user support, operation, and maintenance of IT systems in several classified computing environments. As part of a large, distributed team of IT professionals, this role affords a self‑motivated candidate a high degree of flexibility and autonomy, permitting you the opportunity to learn and grow while making a direct impact on national security. This is an on‑site position located at our Beavercreek office.
Responsibilities
Providing Tier 2 support to a VMware based environment that includes both Linux and Windows machines in a distributed classified computing environment
Implementing, maintaining, and hardening Linux servers and virtual machines that host CI/CD tools and production environments, ensuring high availability and security compliance
Monitoring operations and applications, including using Linux‑based logging and monitoring tools to diagnose and resolve performance issues
Apply security updates/patches to Linux and Windows operation systems
Employ creative solutions and cutting‑edge technologies to ensure the security, integrity, and availability of multiple national security systems
Working knowledge installing, upgrading, and configuring hardware and software
Act as liaison and advocate between our partners, IT management, Engineering, and Information Security staff
Maintain, execute, and improve established system operation processes and procedures
Assess system failures with all available tools and knowledge to enable the customer to meet contractual obligations
Develop new and maintain existing installation and configuration procedures
Coordinate all significant information technology changes with the appropriate parties such as management, infrastructure, and information security following management procedure
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Active Top‑Secret clearance with SCI adjudication
Bachelor's degree and minimum of 5 years of IT experience, or advanced degree with 2 years of IT experience, or 10 years IT experience
Strong, verifiable experience in Linux system administration, including configuration, patching, user management, and security hardening (e.g., DISA STIGs).
Experience with or on Linux or Unix based OS systems using common UNIX/Linux tools (ssh, tar, sed, grep, awk, vi, emacs, cron, etc…)
Experience in command line environment (Bash)
Experience with build systems and maintaining tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, etc.
Experience with source control management systems
Working knowledge supporting VMware based hardware and software
Ability to manage time independently without direct supervision
Capability to troubleshoot complex information technology problems using all available resources
Experience upgrading, installing, and configuring application software and computer hardware
Knowledge of communication security processes and procedures including related hardware
DoD 8140 (451) Systems Admin - Intermediate Certification (Security+ or Equivalent)
Desired Qualifications:
Seeking a candidate that has at least 5 years' experience performing systems administration including 2 years of Linux experience
Working knowledge of Platform One‑aligned infrastructure technologies
Experience with traditional IT stack (Clients, Networking, Servers, Storage)
Demonstrable experience installing, configuring, and supporting Linux‑based operating systems
Has applied STIGS to Linux operating systems, Windows operating systems, network devices, ESXi hosts, and required applications
Active Top‑Secret clearance with SCI adjudication with CI poly
Global Comp $82,000- $135,000 This represents the typical compensation range for this position based on experience, location and other factors.
