Lead Data Engineer with Snowflake and Power BI
Up to $160,000 base with a 15% bonus and excellent benefits.
Hybrid - onsite 2 days a week in Raleigh, NC (must be currently local and will come onsite for the interview).
Position Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Data Engineer to design, build, and manage our data architecture and pipelines as we migrate a legacy system from Cognos and SSIS to Snowflake and Power BI. This role will involve leading data engineering initiatives and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize data access and reporting capabilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering and a passion for utilizing data to drive business insights and strategies.
This is a Lead role, you must be hands-on with the technology along with your leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of scalable data architectures and pipelines using Snowflake and cloud technologies.
Design and implement data modeling, including dimensional modeling (Kimball) and Data Vault 2.0 methodologies.
Develop, maintain, and optimize ETL processes to ensure efficient data flow and accessibility.
Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand data needs and translate them into technical requirements.
Create and manage reports and dashboards using Power BI to provide actionable insights to the team and leadership.
Utilize SQL and Python for data manipulation, analysis, and process automation.
Mentor and guide junior data engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and data engineering best practices to ensure our systems are on the cutting edge.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
8+ years of experience in data engineering or related roles, with a focus on building robust data solutions.
3+ years in a leadership or architecture role .
Strong proficiency in Snowflake data warehouse development, architecture, and performance tuning.
Expertise in
SQL , ETL, Python, and orchestration frameworks such as Airflow, DT or Matillion.
Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, data modeling techniques (Kimball, Data Vault 2.0), and architecture best practices.
5+ years of experience with Power BI for data visualization and reporting.
Solid understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and direct experience integrating cloud services into data pipelines.
Familiarity with real-time data streaming tools such as Kafka is a plus.
Snowflake certification is a nice-to-have but not mandatory.
Hands-on experience with DataOps and infrastructure-as-code techniques.
