Family Peer Advocate, Allyship Services Location:

3 days in Queens office, 2 days remote Schedule:

$29.23 – $32.97 per hour

Position Overview Join a mission‑driven team dedicated to creating safe, affirming spaces for LGBTQIA+ youth and their families across NYC. As a Family Peer Advocate, you’ll use lived experience and relationship‑building skills to guide families through youth‑serving systems, connect them with meaningful resources, and support their overall well‑being.

In this role, you’ll facilitate support groups, conduct community outreach, organize family‑centered activities, and collaborate with Vibrant’s programs to strengthen mental health support citywide.

Duties and Responsibilities

Collaborate with families to assess their needs and link them to appropriate resources

Share personal knowledge and experiences about the youth‑serving systems

Partner with all Vibrant community programs to provide LGBTQIA+ supportive services

Conduct outreach and presentations in communities, schools, early intervention programs, clinics, and other community‑based providers, with a special emphasis on reaching historically hard‑to‑reach populations

Facilitate or co‑facilitate parenting education and support groups

Conduct home and community visits to meet families in locations that allow for the best possible opportunity for assistance

Organize and support social/recreational activities for families and youth, centering mental health awareness

Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of the work completed with individuals and families

Identify local partners and citywide resources

Support Advisory Groups

Additional duties as assigned

Required Skills and Abilities

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Commitment to the well‑being and competent care for all

Show respect in all aspects of work

Experience with trainings, workshops, and group facilitation

Collaborative, team‑oriented spirit

Possessing wisdom gained through lived experience

Ability to build and maintain relationships with communities and partners

Required Qualifications

Family Peer Advocate (FPA) must be a parent or caregiver of a child who has experienced social, emotional, developmental, substance use, and/or behavioral challenges and has ‘lived experience’ navigating multiple child‑serving systems on behalf of their child(ren).

Experience working with LGBTQIA+ youth and caregivers/parents

Opportunity to obtain the NYS Family Peer Advocate (FPA) certification if not already held, with Vibrant providing dedicated support and resources to ensure successful completion within 18 months of being hired

Work flexible hours as required

Bilingual and bi‑cultural candidates encouraged to apply

Candidates possessing exceptional skills, but not all of the qualifications are also encouraged to apply

Physical and Sensory Requirements

75–100% travel within NYC boroughs

Mostly sedentary work; using standard office equipment including a computer, keyboard, and telephone

Ability to work collaboratively with staff, program participants, service providers, and other stakeholders

Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time

Ability to remain calm and composed under stress

Ability to respond to telephones and other auditory stimulation

Ability to evaluate/interpret information and make independent judgment/decisions

Compensation and Benefits We determine base pay through a comprehensive review of skills, experience, education, certifications, geographic location, and other relevant factors. The range listed reflects the compensation parameters for the role and does not represent the full compensation package.
