NDDOT Hiring Salary Transportation Engineer III: $7,243 / month

Transportation Engineer II: $5,999 / month

Transportation Engineer I: $5,403 / month

Applicants who will receive their degree by May 2026 will be considered.

Skills As a Transportation Engineer in Design Division, you will develop reports, plans, and specifications for construction projects on state and federal highway systems. You will develop environmental documents and obtain federal approval. The ideal person for this position will be a problem solver with excellent communication skills and attention to detail with previous experience in using a Computer Aided Drafting and Design Program (CADD). You will also have knowledge of practices, principles, standards, and guidelines as related to engineering processes, preparing engineering reports and plans for roadway construction and providing technical support for consultants.

Primary Duties

Prepare multiple preliminary engineering studies and environmental reports needed for impact analysis, cost estimating, engineering analysis, and decision making.

Prepare multiple project plans, including complex plans, to communicate engineering analysis to contractors and others involved in building projects.

Schedule and coordinate project development. Many activities and tasks rely on other activities or tasks to be complete or partially complete before moving forward – sequencing and coordination becomes paramount when delivering a project on schedule.

Provide technical assistance to consultants and designers; serve as contact for information, decisions, and data for projects.

Minimum Qualifications Transportation Engineer III

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.

Four years of professional-level engineering work experience.

Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.

Requires a class D driver's license for travel to meetings and project locations.

Transportation Engineer II

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.

Two years of professional-level engineering work experience.

Eligibility to write the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.

Requires a class D driver's license for travel to meetings and project locations.

Transportation Engineer I

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.

Eligibility to write the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.

Requires a class D driver's license for travel to meetings and project locations.

A related degree may substitute for the civil engineering degree at all levels.

Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and reference check.
