About the Role The Logistics and Shipping Lead will play a critical role in overseeing and optimizing the end‑to‑end logistics and shipping operations within a durable goods manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for ensuring timely, accurate, and cost‑effective movement of materials and finished products from the manufacturing floor to customers and distribution centers. The role requires close collaboration with production, inventory management, and external carriers to maintain seamless supply chain flow and meet delivery commitments. The Logistics and Shipping Lead will also implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency, reduce shipping errors, and manage compliance with regulatory requirements. Ultimately, this position ensures that the company’s logistics and shipping functions support overall business objectives and customer satisfaction goals effectively.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or higher in logistics, supply chain management, or related field preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in logistics, shipping, or supply chain roles within a manufacturing environment.
Proven experience supervising or leading a team in a logistics or shipping capacity.
Strong knowledge of shipping regulations, carrier operations, and transportation documentation.
Proficiency with logistics software, inventory management systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or related discipline.
Experience with durable goods manufacturing processes and supply chain dynamics.
Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms.
Certification in logistics or supply chain management (e.g., APICS, CSCMP).
Demonstrated success in implementing process improvements and cost‑saving initiatives.
Responsibilities
Manage daily logistics and shipping activities, including scheduling shipments, coordinating with carriers, and tracking deliveries to ensure on‑time performance.
Supervise and lead the shipping team, providing training, guidance, and performance evaluations to maintain high operational standards.
Collaborate with production and inventory teams to align shipping schedules with manufacturing output and inventory availability.
Develop and implement process improvements to optimize shipping workflows, reduce costs, and minimize errors or delays.
Ensure compliance with all relevant transportation regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
Maintain accurate shipping documentation and records, including bills of lading, packing lists, and customs paperwork when applicable.
Analyze logistics data and key performance indicators to identify trends and opportunities for continuous improvement.
Coordinate with external vendors and freight carriers to negotiate rates and service agreements that support business needs.
Skills The required skills enable the Logistics and Shipping Lead to efficiently coordinate complex shipping schedules and manage team workflows to meet tight deadlines. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential for collaborating with internal departments and external carriers to ensure smooth logistics operations. Analytical skills are used daily to interpret shipping data and identify areas for operational improvements and cost reductions. Proficiency with logistics software and inventory systems supports accurate tracking and documentation of shipments, which is critical for compliance and customer satisfaction.
