STV is seeking a
Transportation Engineer
to support transportation and infrastructure projects in
Franklin or Chattanooga, Tennessee . This role is designed for an early- to mid-career engineer who applies professional engineering concepts, exercises sound judgment within established procedures, and contributes to the planning, design, and development of transportation infrastructure systems.
The Transportation Engineer will work as part of multidisciplinary teams supporting roadway, bridge, rail, and utility-related projects, while gaining exposure to increasingly complex assignments and client coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and conduct engineering work involving the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of engineering techniques and design criteria
Support the design and development of transportation infrastructure including roadways, bridges, rail corridors, pipelines, and water/wastewater systems
Prepare and modify engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, exhibits, charts, and technical reports
Apply standard engineering methods, procedures, and criteria in the execution of related design tasks
Assist with interdisciplinary coordination across transportation, structural, traffic, and geotechnical engineering teams
Monitor engineering work for compliance with applicable codes, standards, and accepted engineering practices
Apply STV policies, procedures, and quality standards to resolve routine technical issues
Participate in internal coordination efforts and, as appropriate, support limited external agency or client interactions
Level II Expectations Knowledge
Uses professional engineering concepts and principles
Applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of routine engineering issues
Job Complexity
Works on problems of moderate scope
Follows established techniques, procedures, and design criteria
Exercises judgment within defined practices to determine appropriate actions
Maintains primarily internal contacts with some external interaction as needed
Supervision
Receives general guidance on routine work assignments
Receives detailed instructions on new projects or complex tasks Work is reviewed for technical soundness and adherence to established standards
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
Professional Engineer (PE) preferred or ability to obtain
Typically 3–5 years of relevant transportation or civil infrastructure experience
Working knowledge of transportation design principles and engineering standards
Experience preparing engineering plans, calculations, and technical documentation
Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary, team-oriented environment
Compensation Range: $80,965.27 - $107,953.69
