Overview PPL Quality Operations Specialists are responsible for the development and implementation of quality activities within the areas of quality assessments, quality surveillance, non-conformances, root cause analysis, corrective/preventive actions, continual improvement, and area/project quality support. The role may also function as a QA/QC Engineer depending on the region, project site or facility. The specialist reports directly to the Project Manager and interfaces regularly with corporate and area functional leads, area welding & QA managers, area quality managers, and project/fabrication shop quality managers.

Responsibilities

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.

Assist quality managers and area quality leads in deploying quality program initiatives.

Conduct internal quality audits according to the area/project audit plan.

Assist in obtaining applicable certifications such as ASME, ISO, etc.

Provide training to project or shop personnel as needed.

Ensure compliance with welding and QA/QC project requirements.

Understand subcontractor agreement and local regulatory quality requirements.

Prepare and maintain project deliverables per the organization’s management system.

Coordinate welding and QA/QC engineers and inspectors for inspection and testing.

Maintain project records in accordance with the organization’s records management system.

Ensure sufficient QA/QC resources across all project processes, including design, procurement, fabrication, supplier surveillance, receiving, handling & storage, construction, and commissioning.

Report project quality performance (KPIs) to area quality and welding QA/QC managers.

Manage non-conformances and corrective actions, including root cause analysis.

Submit weekly and monthly quality reports to operations and functional management.

Advise project teams on all QA/QC issues.

Coordinate NDE activities at project site or shop.

Supervise welders and welding operators, ensuring product quality.

Maintain up-to-date qualifications and certifications for welders, welding operators, and NDE technicians.

Contribute to a positive project or shop safety culture.

Qualifications

15+ years of company/industry experience, with 10–15 years in the relevant discipline.

Engineering degree (preferably Welding Engineering).

Knowledge of the following codes (as applicable) ASME Section II, Section V, Section VIII, Section IX; ASTM material; API 650, API 620, AWWA D100, AWS D1.1, ASME B31.3, ASME B16.5/B16.47, and other product‑specific related codes as needed.

Skills and Behaviors

Expertise in welding & NDE methods applicable to the project or shop.

Knowledge of applicable management system documentation.

Act as the focal point for all welding & QA/QC matters at the point of assignment.

Understand project requirements and ensure compliance.

Compile project records and hand over to final documentation.

Communicate effectively with internal and external disciplines at multiple levels.

Manage team effectively toward project objectives.

Familiar with the following:

NDE Level II in VT, MT, PT, SFT, UT, RT.

Written and practical NDE examinations.

Qualification record maintenance.

Annual eye test administration.

CWI certification.

Paint inspection knowledge.

Hydro test safety.

Pay Range USD $108,396 – $135,495 Annually
