We are seeking a Long Distance (LD) Transport Engineer III to support Ultra-Long Haul (ULH), OTN Mesh, and WDM transport networks. This role is responsible for engineering, planning, implementation, testing, and turn‑up of long‑distance transport systems, ensuring network reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.
This is a hybrid role based in Richardson, TX, requiring onsite presence 1–2 days per week.
Key Responsibilities
Engineer and support
LD / ULH transport network builds
Plan, implement, test, and turn up long-distance transport systems
Monitor and plan
LD network utilization and capacity expansion
Respond to high-failure rate system outages and escalations
Support
equipment decommissioning , space and power optimization
Maintain and clean up
engineering and provisioning databases
Manage equipment inventory records and transport documentation
Identify and implement solutions for order‑wire and housekeeping systems
Coordinate with peers to ensure on‑time delivery supporting business needs
Troubleshoot issues and stay current on evolving transport technologies
Required Skills & Experience (Must Have)
Telecom industry experience with
Long Distance / Ultra-Long Haul networks
Strong technical knowledge of
SONET/SDH, ULH, OTN Mesh, and WDM transport
Vendor experience with
Ciena, Infinera, Fujitsu , and long-haul platforms
Working knowledge of Verizon systems:
BGW / Granite (XNG), CoFEE (Canvas), Nautilus, ICON, CCP, Venue, 3GIS/FIMS
Experience engineering and designing
ULH transport systems
Ability to manage complex processes and drive results
Proficiency with
Windows‑based tools and corporate database systems
Desired Skills
Strong understanding of
engineering specifications and drawings
Experience with
equipment inventory and network design
Knowledge of legacy network operating systems
Strong analytical and risk‑assessment skills
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with teams
Strong time management and prioritization skills
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field
or equivalent experience
5+ years
of telecom experience
