Successful applicants will need to be available to work 3 shifts per week, Monday - Sunday, 08.00 - 15.30

Contracted Hours will be 21 Hours per week

Shifts will be allocated on a rota, a minimum of 6 weeks in advance.

The Plastics and Burns Trauma Receptionist is responsible for supporting the Plastics Trauma Coordinator and wider team to provide reception cover and administrative support for the Plastics and Burns Trauma Service here at Southmead Hospital, this will include creating referrals, booking patients into clinic and outcoming patients correct inline with the BNSSG ICB Policies.

To play a central role within these services and to work in close liaison with colleagues, staff in other departments, GPs, patients and the general public. To work well as part of a team whilst being able to use their own initiative to provide administrative support to the Plastics and Burns Trauma Receptionist/ Administrator Support within the Plastic Surgery team, to ensure effective high quality service is provided.

Main duties of the job

To support the Plastics and Burns Trauma Coordinators in working as part of a clinical team ensuring that patients are diagnosed and treated within national guidelines and in accordance with the trust's Patients Access Policy. This includes: NHS Constitution, emergency care; Department of Health admission guidelines and booking rules.

To book clinics in advance and ensure patients details are correct.

As appropriate, schedule new or follow-up outpatient appointments and that all relevant paper work is completed for given appointment. This includes ensuring that all emergency attendances and outcomes are promptly and accurately recorded on the appropriate PAS system(s).

To deal with enquiries from all service users in a helpful, courteous and diplomatic manner.

To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.

Regular communication with consultant teams, clinical staff and directorate management to enable efficient processes.

Promptly answer telephone enquiries, taking and relaying messages in a polite and helpful manner, taking action as appropriate. This will include enquiries from patients, their GPs and community hospitals.

Provide cover for colleagues across the department during periods of planned annual leave and sickness.

To undertake additional administrative tasks and responsibilities within the specialty/clinical division as required by your line manager

Person Specification Education/Training/Qualifications

Educated to GCSE or equivalent

Have a basic understanding of outpatient booking processes and/or a fundamental understanding of the NHS.

Work Experience

Experience of working as part of a team in a multi-disciplinary environment.

Ability to demonstrate good patient care skills.

Experienced in the NHS or similar organisation.

Previous Outpatient and/or clerical experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Able to develop good working relationships amongst team, colleagues and staff

Able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.
