University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust is a dynamic and thriving group of hospitals in the heart of Bristol, a vibrant and culturally diverse city. Our staff offer over 100 different clinical services across 10 different sites. We provide general medical and emergency services to the local population of Central and South Bristol, and a broad range of specialist services across a region that extends from Cornwall to Gloucestershire, into South Wales and beyond. We are one of the country's largest acute NHS Trusts with an annual income of over £500 million.

Main duties of the job The post will join a team in the new Bristol Heart Institute, which opened in 2009 and delivers 1500–1600 adult cardiac operations annually. Your role will involve working as part of a dynamic team of surgeons with an international clinical and academic reputation. The centre specialises in all areas of adult cardiac surgery, except transplantation and ventricular assist devices. There are five fully equipped modern cardiac surgery theatres, one of which is hybrid (shared with Cardiology). Critical care support is provided within a modern 19‑bed Critical Care area staffed by dedicated cardiac intensive care specialists.

This post will offer excellent clinical, teaching and research facilities, with possibilities to develop or consolidate your surgical expertise in all areas of cardiac surgery.

Applicants must have GMC registration by the starting date, possess MRCS (UK) or equivalent, and have completed at least four years of higher surgical training in cardiac surgery. Preference will be given to applicants who have been awarded their CCT.
