Structural Discipline Supervisor
The Structural Discipline Supervisor role at Ayres Associates demands experienced structural engineers ready to advance their career as a discipline supervisor. The ideal candidate will be passionate about structural design, leading design teams, mentoring employees, and strategically aligning talents with opportunities to deliver quality projects to clients.
Success will be defined by your ability as a discipline supervisor:
Develop client relationships; identify, pursue, and win structural projects.
Manage clients and resources for structural‑related projects.
Contribute to the overall leadership of the Structural group.
Make hiring recommendations as the discipline grows and support career development of staff within the discipline.
On Any Given Day, You’ll
Take the lead in successfully marketing and winning structural projects.
Manage clients and projects, including overseeing the production of all project work to ensure timely, profitable, and high‑quality delivery.
Perform technical writing (proposals, memos, reports, presentations, etc.).
Develop technical approaches, fee estimates, and contracts for approval by the group manager.
Review contracts produced by team members for final approval by the structural group manager.
Provide oversight of projects within your team, including QA/QC, resource allocation, and technical advice.
Build and maintain respectful working relationships with coworkers and company leaders.
Support and participate in the supervision, development, and mentorship of staff.
Lead regular team meetings to discuss projects, pursuits, workload, and resource utilization.
Provide input to division leadership for the annual business plan and budget for the group.
Actively engage in local, statewide, and/or national professional organizations.
Participate in office‑wide social events.
Travel to various Ayres offices as needed.
Required Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
Professional Engineer registration.
Demonstrated and recognized expertise in structural engineering.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Solid understanding of financial project management.
Ability to travel throughout the year.
Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Desired Skills And Experience
Advanced degree (MS or higher) in structural engineering, business administration, or related field (beneficial but not required).
Ability to work independently and with team members in multiple offices.
Aptitude for coaching and mentoring others.
Proven success in meeting client expectations, managing projects profitably, maintaining design schedules, and adhering to applicable regulations.
Eagerness to cultivate a team environment where all staff feel valued and supported and ideas flow freely.
