Position Summary We seek a dedicated Assistant Director for Life Safety to lead critical safety initiatives! This role is responsible for the comprehensive oversight of all campus and residential fire protection systems. Responsibilities This position leads the fire & life safety program, overseeing testing, maintenance, inspection, and repair of all fire protection systems; ensures system functionality; manages preventative maintenance; coordinates with external contractors for code compliance; maintains meticulous records; conducts inspections, audits, and liaises with Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ); develops emergency plans, signage, and safety training; conducts incident response and investigations to identify hazards and recommend solutions; responds to campus emergencies as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate or Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Engineering, Facilities Management, Occupational/Environmental Health and Safety, or related field; alternatively, five or more years experience can substitute degree requirements.
At least three years experience in a relevant field.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills.
Strong customer service skills.
Valid Ohio Driver's License with a low risk driving record.
Functional knowledge of applicable Environmental, Health & Safety Federal, State and Local regulations.
Knowledge and understanding of fire safety equipment, including fire extinguishers and fire protection systems.
Ability to make decisions/recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues.
Rigorous dedication to detail required to sustain an effective safety program.
Strong computer skills.
Ability to climb ladders (required).
Medically fit to wear a respirator.
Physically capable of lifting a minimum of 20 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field or Fire Safety Engineering degree.
Experience in higher education preferred.
Relevant NFPA or fire and life safety certifications.
Strong knowledge of NFPA codes and OSHA requirements.
Technical understanding of fire alarm control panels, fire protection systems, and associated interfaces.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Experience producing technical programs, protocols, and training content.
