Job Summary
As senior transmission engineer, you will lead and mentor team members, engage in challenging assignments, and contribute to the design and implementation of solutions for projects including utility infrastructure, renewable energy facilities, and critical data center applications.
Your Impact You will design, analyze, and optimize electrical transmission systems including overhead and underground high-voltage power lines, and be responsible for project and client management. Your experienced background in transmission line design, structural analysis, and electrical engineering principles is integral to providing innovative solutions that align with SME’s commitment to sustainability and technical excellence.
Typical Day
Design and develop high-voltage transmission lines (35kV – 345kV) using industry-standard software (PLS-CADD).
Conduct structural, electrical, and thermal analyses to optimize system performance.
Perform routing, siting, and impact assessments for transmission projects.
Prepare technical specifications, construction drawings, and material lists.
Conduct field assessments and site visits to support project planning and execution.
Manage projects ensuring that project deliverables meet schedule, budget, and quality requirements.
Provide technical support during construction, testing, and commissioning phases.
Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and regulatory agencies including utilities and government agencies to ensure compliance with industry standards (NESC, IEEE, ANSI, etc.).
Provide technical expertise and construction oversight.

Required Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in electrical, civil, or mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited school
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in transmission line design and engineering and understanding of structural and mechanical aspects of transmission lines
Proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER software
Strong knowledge of NESC, IEEE, and ANSI standards
Experience with AutoCAD, GIS mapping tools, and power system modeling software
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently and within a team
Experience with distribution line design and knowledge of distribution equipment is a plus
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required
