Job Description Minimum of 3 months of agricultural experience handling both manual and mechanized tasks, preferably in a nursery. Applicants must be able to provide a verbal or written statement establishing relevant prior work experience.
Responsibilities
Perform manual and mechanized tasks with accuracy and efficiency: mowing, cutting, weeding, ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, and other manual tasks.
Use hand tools such as hoes, shovels, pruners, shears, clippers, loppers, and saws.
Lift, carry, and load/unload products or supplies.
Operate power equipment including tractors, planters, mowers, plows, sprayers, cultivators, power shears, chain saws, high lifts, fork lifts, and skid loaders.
Apply pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and other crop protectants; mix and apply fertilizers, plant growth chemicals, and conditioners.
Assist with farm building/field maintenance and repairs; repair fences.
Install/maintain irrigation systems and water lines; move and install irrigation pipes and equipment.
Prepare fields/soil for planting; remove cull stock, debris, tree stumps, brush, vines, and other growth.
Plant, cultivate, and maintain nursery stock and/or bedding plants; perform general plant maintenance.
Prune, trim, space, transplant, and cull plants; stake/tie plants, trellis/prune vines, and set poles and wires.
Pick, cut, lift, or pull crops; irrigate and apply fertilizer; count, grade, and inventory plants.
Prepare plants for digging by tying or wrapping root balls; wrap burlap or other coverings; secure with twine and/or staples; crimp wire baskets.
Understand nursery quality control standards and production procedures; harvest crops according to specific standards and customer needs.
Work in the field for long periods; handle product weighing up to 60 pounds and lifting up to 5 feet; work on feet in bent positions; repetitive movements, extensive walking.
Operate outdoors in varied weather: dew, rain, light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity, extreme temperatures (10–100°F); may operate during occasional showers.
Must handle allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides; perform job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Wear assigned personal protective equipment; report for work daily wearing work clothing and durable footwear; no shorts or casual clothing.
Take and pass employer-paid drug test before starting employment.
