Requirements: minimum of two months verifiable prior experience working on a tree and shrub nursery and/or Christmas tree farm, handling both manual and machine tasks associated with commodity production and harvest activities. Applicants must be able to furnish verifiable job references or comparable third-party documentation from recent employers establishing acceptable prior experience. Workers must be able to perform manual as well as mechanized activities with accuracy and efficiency. Saturday work required. Must be able to lift/carry 60 lbs. Specific responsibilities include: Perform entry-level tasks and additional mechanized activities, preferably including ball and burlap (B&B) field harvesting. Manual tasks: prepare fields for planting, clear cull stock, brush and debris; plant seedlings or 'liners'; dig, load, unload, transplant bare-root nursery stock; straightening, tying, staking, pruning and shearing trees and shrubs; cutting, pulling or removing and mowing weeds or grass; move irrigation equipment; spray herbicides and insecticides; apply fertilizer (pick up and carry 60 lbs with 4-ounce cup); accurate visual calibration and proper placement of fertilizer. Harvest tasks: take inventory and grade plants; prepare trees and shrubs for digging; dig; wrap burlap or other covering around root balls; secure with twine or staples; crimp wire baskets; lift, carry and load nursery stock; unload, move or load supplies; hand dig ornamental evergreens and conifers up to 5‑6'; harvest 40-45 plants per hour; ensure leaves, limbs and roots are not broken. Maintain crew pace; perform hand hoeing; remove weeds by root; shear conifers and evergreens with proper taper and angle of bud cut. Christmas tree specific tasks: plant, cultivate and harvest Christmas evergreen trees; remove brush, ferns and other growth using tractor, mattocks and brush hooks; plant seedlings with planting bar or augers; prune and shape trees; scatter fertilizer pellets; spray herbicides or pesticides; shears tops and limb tips; select trees for cutting; fell trees using axe or chain saw; drive trucks or tractors; drag cut trees; use tree baler; load onto trucks. Additional general tasks: irrigation, ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, weeding, other wholesale nursery operations. Follow safety and operation instructions; improper safety compliance may result in termination.
