Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant’s responsibilities are to apply basic principles of accounting and accepted procedures to compute, classify, and record numerical data in order to keep financial records complete. The position performs a combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data used in maintaining accounting records. The Staff Accountant may work in a variety of accounting functions, such as accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and budget preparation. Performs other duties as assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The position performs a combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data used in maintaining accounting records. The Staff Accountant may work in a variety of accounting functions, such as accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and budget preparation. Performs other duties as assigned. Accounting Functions
Reconciles all intercompany accounts; ad-hoc analysis and schedules as needed. Reviews, audits, and approves the issuance (release) of all accounts payable invoices prior to check issuance. Prepares cash, accounts receivable, payroll and accounts payable journal entries. Treasury Responsibilities
Responsible for the safeguarding of receipts. Prepares bank deposits and brings to the bank as back-up for the Senior Accountant and other treasury functions as required. Ensures adequate funding in accounts for payroll and accounts payable payments. Responsible for petty cash disbursements. Serves as back-up for Senior Accountant as needed. Accounts Receivable
Maintains, analyzes and resolves receivable balances. Reconciles and reports on accounts receivable balances, including follow-up with internal departments. Fines/Fees
Reviews and analyzes online branch cash reporting. Provides support services and training for community libraries for fines/fees processing. Ensures compliance with cash management policies/procedures. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate’s Degree in Accounting/Finance required. Minimum of one year of experience in accounting. Working knowledge of financial and accounting software systems. Basic knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Organized and detail oriented. Proficient in Microsoft Office; ability to work under tight time schedules and to handle multiple tasks. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with both internal and external customers from different backgrounds and organizational levels. Respond to common inquires or complaints from internal customers and regulatory agencies; recommend and/or implement solutions to identified problems. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to drive for work-related purposes as needed. Commitment to serving all communities in the most diverse area of the country. PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
