Phlebotomist, Outreach Lab Under the supervision of the Manager Laboratory Outreach Services or guidance of the Lead Phlebotomist, performs responsibilities associated with obtaining blood and various other patient specimens in accordance with department procedures.

Tasks include: registration of patients, verification of identities, ordering of tests, managing advanced beneficiary notices, and performing venipuncture or capillary puncture on pediatric and adult patients.

Responsibilities also cover documentation, specimen labeling and transport, patient education regarding sample collection, and coordination with nursing staff for adverse events.

Responsibilities

Collect and document patient specimens using the computer system.

Register patients, verify identities, and enter demographic and insurance information.

Process advanced beneficiary notices and maintain supporting documentation.

Schedule and conduct venipunctures or capillary punctures, ensuring proper patient preparation.

Label, wrap, and transport samples according to protocol and urgency.

Maintain records of specimen procurement and monitor standing orders.

Participate in universal precautions and infection control procedures.

Communicate with nursing staff and supervisors regarding deviations or adverse patient conditions.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.

Phlebotomy certificate from a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent.

Minimum of 6 months phlebotomy experience or 5+ years direct experience in lieu of certification.

Proficiency in venipuncture and capillary puncture for adults, children, and infants.

Strong interpersonal skills to educate and reassure patients.

Clerical proficiency: entry of patient data, management of records, and use of blood collection equipment.

Ability to distinguish chromatic colors and understand anticoagulant use.

Pay Range $17.69–$27.90
