Job Summary The Surgical Technologist scrubs for surgical procedures and demonstrates competence while functioning as a member of the surgical team. Prepares and maintains supplies, instruments and equipment related to these procedures. Supports the philosophy, objectives and goals of the Surgery Center. Supports and participates in quality improvement activities.
Responsibilities
Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures by ensuring instruments, equipment, and supplies are properly sterilized and available.
Scrub and assist during surgical procedures, maintaining strict aseptic techniques at all times.
Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team during procedures.
Maintain an accurate count of sponges, needles, instruments, and other supplies throughout the procedure.
Ensure proper care, handling, and sterilization of instruments and equipment before, during, and after surgery.
Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping under the direction of the surgical team.
Monitor and maintain a sterile field, taking immediate corrective action when breaks in aseptic technique occur.
Dispose of sharps and other biohazard materials according to safety and infection control protocols.
Support inventory control by restocking supplies and reporting shortages or equipment malfunctions.
Participate in quality improvement activities, staff meetings, and continuing education to support departmental goals.
Uphold the center’s philosophy, objectives, and compliance with all regulatory and safety standards.

Required Skills
Proficiency in handling and maintaining surgical instruments and equipment
Ability to maintain a sterile field and follow infection control protocols
Strong ability to coordinate with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia providers
Quick thinking to anticipate needs and respond effectively during surgery
Capable of standing for long periods and assisting in physically demanding procedures
Experience with electrocautery devices, suction units, and other surgical technology
Understanding of patient positioning, draping techniques, and safety measures
Familiarity with sterilization techniques, autoclaving, and infection prevention measures
Understanding hospital policies, Joint Commission standards, and OSHA regulations
Required Experience
Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program
Must hold an active Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification, as required by the State of Texas for surgical technologists working in ambulatory surgery centers.
At least 1‑2 years of experience in an operating room setting, preferably in a hospital
Experience assisting in different types of surgeries (e.g., orthopedics, general, plastics, neurosurgery, etc.)
Experience working in high‑pressure situations and responding to surgical complications
