Dates: Feb. 23 – April 24, 2026

Classroom/Lab: Weeks 1‑5 at STLCC Florissant Valley, Center for Nursing & Health Sciences, 3400 Pershall Rd, St. Louis, MO 63135.

Schedule: Monday‑Friday, 8:30 a.m.–3 p.m.

Final Skill Checkoff: Saturday, March 28, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

Clinical Practice: Weeks 6‑9 at Barnes‑Jewish Hospital, One Barnes‑Jewish Hospital Plaza, St. Louis, MO 63110.

Schedule: Three 12‑hour shifts weekly as assigned, 7 a.m.–7:30 p.m.

PLEASE NOTE: CURRENT BJC EMPLOYEES MUST BE IN CURRENT POSITION FOR 3 MONTHS TO BE ELIGIBLE

This 9‑week accelerated training program combines classroom instruction, hands‑on skill labs and on‑the‑job training in a clinical practice. The training satisfies the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services requirements for Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP).

Program Highlights

Individuals selected for the program will be employed as PCTs during training.

Tuition funding is provided by BJC HealthCare. Minimum 1‑year employment commitment to Barnes‑Jewish Hospital required upon completion.

Role Purpose Provides direct patient care to support licensed professional nurses responsible for a team of patients to ensure a safe environment by reducing risk of harm. Collects vital information on the patient and reports such to the nursing team which contributes to the overall assessment of each patient and any changes to a patient's condition.

Responsibilities

Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse, promoting patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Administers or assists patients with ADLs, performs vital signs, intake & output, fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, or point‑of‑care testing as requested.

Collects clinical data and information on patients, and reports changes in patient status to the nurse.

Assists nurse with patient and family education. Documents all patient care activities with correct medical terminology. Acts as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.

Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs.

Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.

Certified Nurse Assistant.
