Staff Accountant We are seeking a Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of a portfolio of residential properties. This role is responsible for preparing accurate monthly financial statements, managing the close process, completing key reconciliations, and ensuring the integrity of all financial data related to assigned assets. The ideal candidate is highly organized, deadline-driven, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the monthly accounting cycle for a group of multifamily properties, including journal entries, general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and review of payables and receivables.

Monitor cash activity, verify available balances, and process funding requests and payment approvals as needed.

Coordinate and track timely payment of property-related obligations such as taxes and recurring expenses.

Partner closely with on-site and corporate operations teams (including property management, asset management, and community leadership) as well as external parties such as vendors and financial partners.

Provide guidance to property teams on invoice coding, tenant ledger reconciliation, and other accounting questions when required.

Maintain fixed asset records and oversee depreciation schedules for assigned properties.

Serve as an initial reviewer of monthly reporting packages and assist leadership with analysis or follow-up as necessary.

Support the year-end audit process and assist with preparation of information for tax filings.

Contribute to special projects and prepare ad-hoc financial analyses or reports as requested.

Strong analytical and organizational abilities with a commitment to accuracy and meeting deadlines.

Effective time-management skills and the ability to manage several deliverables simultaneously.

Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with internal teams and external partners.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sound judgment.

Self-starter capable of working independently and seeking clarification when necessary.

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required, with a solid understanding of GAAP and accrual-based accounting.

1-2+ years of professional accounting experience; exposure to real estate or construction accounting is beneficial.

Experience with property management accounting systems (Yardi preferred).

Preferred Qualifications

CPA certification highly advantageous.

Prior experience in public accounting is a plus.
