Job Description Maint Section Assistant I/II (2503403) – TxDOT San Angelo District

Position Information TxDOT’s San Angelo District seeks a Maintenance Section Assistant I or II in the Ozona Maintenance Office. This leadership position supports roadway maintenance projects throughout Crockett County. Assistants coordinate equipment, materials, and personnel and work closely with the maintenance section supervisor. Experience in this role can lead to future advancement within the department.

Work Schedule Monday – Thursday 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Compensation

Maintenance Section Assistant I (B19): $4,020.33 – $6,335.66 monthly

Maintenance Section Assistant II (B20): $4,263.16 – $6,779.25 monthly

Minimum Salary: $48,244.00 yearly (FLSA Nonexempt)

Maximum Salary: $81,351.00 yearly

Essential Duties

Assist the maintenance section supervisor in overseeing the work of the section and contracted crews.

Schedule equipment, materials, and personnel for section projects.

Plan, coordinate, and implement emergency response to inclement weather, accidents, and hazardous spills.

Ensure all projects follow established safety guidelines.

Inspect road conditions, work‑in‑progress, and completed work by crews and contractors.

Maintain records on materials, supplies, and personnel.

Operate light and heavy roadway equipment as needed.

Perform operations of the section in the supervisor’s absence.

Train employees on equipment use and procedures.

Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.

Assist in budget preparation for the section (Assistant II).

Complete reports on damaged railings and bridges (Assistant II).

Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Maintenance Section Assistant I: 5 years maintenance experience*; II: 6 years maintenance experience*.

Valid driver’s license and Class “A” CDL with “N” endorsement and no transmission restriction within 60 days of employment.

Knowledge of intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work and applicable safety standards.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32° and above 100° for more than one hour.

Subject to noise and vibration.

Subject to hazards – moving vehicles, mechanical parts, high places, heat, and chemicals.

Required to wear protective gear – respirator, hard hat, or other device.

Lift up to 50 lbs and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs.

Standing for prolonged periods.

Visual acuity – operate machines, motor vehicles, and heavy equipment.
