Salary Plan / Grade

Maintenance Section Supervisor I (B24): $65,104 – $106,634 per year

Maintenance Section Supervisor II (B25): $69,572 – $114,099 per year

Maintenance Section Supervisor III (B26): $76,530 – $129,430 per year

Job Summary We are looking for a proactive leader who prioritizes safety, adheres to TxDOT’s policies and procedures, and manages budgets to maintain state roadways in Jefferson County and surrounding areas. The role involves responding to emergencies, ensuring safety, and overseeing a maintenance section to keep roadways safe and efficient.

Key Responsibilities

Inspects road conditions, work in progress, and completed work by crews and contractors.

Plans, coordinates, and implements emergency response to inclement weather, flooding, accidents, and hazardous material spills affecting area roadways.

Plans, schedules, and coordinates work project needs including personnel, equipment, and material with area engineer and district staff.

Prepares and monitors the budget.

Prioritizes and assigns projects to maintenance section assistants and crew chiefs; guides them in planning, scheduling, and ensuring safety compliance.

Manages maintenance section office activities: HR, public relations, facilities, inventory and general administrative matters.

Provides training for employees.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Administers and inspects contracted maintenance activities (Supervisor III).

Oversees operation and maintenance of light and heavy equipment (Supervisor III).

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent.

For Supervisor I: 7 years roadway maintenance or construction work; for II: 8 years; for III: 9 years. Relevant college education or technical training may substitute one year of experience per year.

Valid driver's license. Must obtain a Commercial Class "A" CDL within 180 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Commercial driver's license (CDL).

Knowledge of methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work.

Familiarity with applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and code specifications.

Understanding of Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

Incident management procedure experience.

Experience supervising technical staff and public relations.

Administrative support, recordkeeping, and reporting skills.

Experience with budgeting methods, materials for highway/bridge construction, hazardous material handling, light highway equipment use, and financial and personnel resource management.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Exposure to extreme cold and heat (below 32 or above 100°F for more than an hour).

Lift up to 50 lbs, frequently carry up to 25 lbs.

Prolonged standing and walking.

Verbal communication and close visual acuity for data, figure, and small defect inspection.

Pre‑employment physical exam required.

Random drug testing required; medical marijuana is not a valid medical explanation.

Must be available on a 24‑hour basis for emergency response.
