We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead and manage accounting operations across a multi-entity real estate and property management platform. This role will be responsible for overseeing financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting processes for operating assets, development entities, and corporate structures. Experience with property management accounting and real estate financials is required, with student housing experience preferred but not mandatory.
The ideal candidate is a hands‑on accounting leader who can manage complexity, scale systems, and partner cross‑functionally with operations, property management, and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and oversee accounting operations across multiple legal entities, including operating properties, development entities, and corporate structures
Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closes
Prepare and review GAAP-compliant financial statements and supporting schedules
Oversee property-level accounting, including rent revenue, CAM reconciliations, accruals, and operating expense allocations
Manage intercompany accounting, consolidations, and eliminations
Establish, document, and maintain internal controls and accounting policies
Partner with property management, asset management, and leadership to provide financial insight and decision support
Lead and develop accounting staff; set expectations, review performance, and support professional growth
Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and lenders as needed
Oversee cash management processes and ensure proper controls over disbursements and banking activity
Support system optimization and process improvements across accounting platforms
Preferred Systems & Tools
Entrata (property management accounting)
NetSuite (ERP / general ledger)
Ramp (corporate card and spend management)
Experience with these systems is preferred, but candidates with comparable platforms will be considered.
Qualifications
Minimum 8+ years of progressive accounting experience
Strong background in real estate and property management accounting
Experience managing multi-entity and multi-property financials
Prior leadership or management experience overseeing accounting teams
Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting best practices
CPA license preferred but not required
Student housing accounting experience is a plus, not a requirement
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
Detail‑oriented with a proactive, solution‑driven mindset
