The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The centers provide campus-based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state. Learn About Our State Supported Living Centers. This position may be eligible to earn additional pay for work performed on evenings, nights and/or weekends. Responsibilities

Work under moderate supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Perform moderately complex human services support work, including organizing and coordinating leisure activities appropriate to each individual. Monitor that individuals served receive a variety of quality leisure opportunities on campus and in the local community. Provide information to individuals served and staff about activities offered on and off campus. Follow up with individuals served and staff to verify quality and adjust activities to better meet preferences. Prepare and provide feedback reports to the Active Treatment Coordinator Supervisor regarding ongoing monitoring of activities and services offered. Work closely with the Active Treatment Coordinator Supervisor and Recreation Program Manager. Maintain inventory and order recreational supplies in each unit assigned. Develop initiative and imaginative ideas to engage individuals in meaningful and functional activities. Monitor scheduled activities to ensure quality delivery of active treatment services. Drive a state-owned vehicle as required. Essential Job Functions

Attend work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or rotating schedule, extended shift, and/or overtime per agency leave policy. Establish and maintain positive, supportive relationships with individuals served, family members and friends, and employees. Coordinate activities appropriate to the level of functioning of individuals living at the State Supported Living Center. Provide oversight as activities are conducted and follow up to ensure quality active treatment services meet individuals' satisfaction. Prepare written documentation and reports on monitoring of activities, quarterly or as requested. Maintain professional and effective communications with the Supervisor, Recreational Program Manager, and Home Managers. Ensure availability of supplies and resources necessary for functional activities. Assist in transporting individuals for scheduled activities and emergency situations. Inspect workspaces and equipment for hazardous conditions and take necessary action. Participate in disaster response, COOP activation, or other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Make decisions and use good judgment in critical incidents. React quickly and calmly in emergencies. Demonstrate proper body mechanics, posture, and lifting techniques. Possess knowledge of individual care techniques, treatment, therapy, and developmental programs, and ability to learn through training. Provide individual care, administer first aid and/or CPR, perform Ukeru (once trained), and conduct Safe Use of Restraint (SUR). Communicate effectively and train/mentor/coach others. Work effectively with others as a team member. Registrations, Licensure, & Certifications

Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain within 90 days after hire. Out-of-state license holders must provide certified driving record. Initial Screening Criteria

One year experience in direct individual care work or graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent. Additional Information

Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and LEIE. Male applicants 18–25 must register with Selective Service. All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to Random Drug Testing.
