Brief Job Description The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or have behavioral problems. This position offers the opportunity to establish a career of purpose, working in a team to help residents achieve independence and wellness.

Responsibilities

Provide routine and emergency care, treatment, and training for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Assist with grooming, bathing, feeding, lifting, positioning, medication administration, and observation reporting.

Document daily activities, behavioral observations, and incidents in case records.

Participate in individualized treatment and training programs.

Exercise good body mechanics and safe lifting techniques.

Provide first aid and basic CPR when required.

Transport residents to scheduled activities and assist in emergencies.

Participate in crisis intervention, behavior management, and habilitation programs.

Maintain a safe and sanitary environment while supervising home activities.

Serve as a shift/team lead (“Charge”) when designated.

Drive a state‑owned vehicle if required.

Essential Job Functions

Attend work regularly and comply with shift schedules, including overtime and extended or rotating shifts as authorized.

Implement rehabilitation, behavior management, and crisis intervention programs tailored to each resident’s goals.

Teach life skills such as feeding, dressing, and personal hygiene.

Contribute to residents’ treatment plan development.

Report signs of disease, injury, or medication reactions, and document observations.

Assist in evacuations during emergencies and administer CPR.

Perform direct care and support services; manage aggressive behaviors.

Maintain daily documentation and support interdisciplinary teams.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge of individual care techniques; ability to learn new programs and therapies.

English reading, writing, and speaking proficiency.

Clear verbal and written communication.

Decision‑making and good judgment in critical incidents.

Calm, rapid response in emergencies.

Demonstration of proper body mechanics and lifting techniques.

Ability to administer first aid, CPR, and implement Safe Use of Restraint (SUR).

Training and mentorship capability.

Teamwork and flexibility with tasks.

Registrations, Licensure & Certifications

Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

Out‑of‑state license holders must provide a certified driving record.

Initial Screening Criteria

High School diploma, GED, or 6 months of relevant work experience.

Preferred: 1 year of experience working with individuals with mental health/intellectual developmental disabilities.

Preferred: Experience implementing behavioral programs for persons with intellectual developmental disabilities.

Additional Information

Preferred: Experience writing reports.

Required: Pass fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, HHS LEIE).

Males 18‑25 must register with the Selective Service.

Eligibility for random drug testing.

Work may require overtime, extended hours, weekends, and holidays.
