The Electrophysiology Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional electrophysiology procedures. This role requires in-depth cardiac knowledge, critical thinking, and technical proficiency in assisting physicians during complex cardiac procedures such as ablations, pacemaker/ICD implantations, and other rhythm-related interventions.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare patients for electrophysiology studies, ablations, and device implantations.
Monitor and assess patients during procedures, including sedation, hemodynamic stability, and cardiac rhythm interpretation.
Assist physicians with sterile procedures, including catheter insertions and mapping systems.
Operate and troubleshoot EP-specific equipment and devices.
Document all procedural details accurately in the electronic health record system.
Ensure compliance with infection control and safety protocols in the EP lab.
Provide pre- and post-procedure education and care to patients and families.
Collaborate with physicians, technologists, and other team members to ensure high-quality patient care and procedure efficiency.
Required Qualificati ons
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license Basic Life Support (BLS) certification At least 2 year of recent critical care or cardiac nursing experience Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, electrophysiology concepts, and arrhythmias Ability to interpret EKGs and cardiac rhythms in real-time Preferred Qualifications
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification Previous experience in Electrophysiology or Cardiac Catheterization Lab Familiarity with 3D mapping systems (e.g., CARTO, EnSite) and EP equipment Experience with conscious sedation and procedural monitoring Certifications
Registered Nurse (RN) License Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – preferred
