Demonstrates care and compassion to all patients and visitors. Provides courteous and professional assistance to other staff members and physicians. Performs venipunctures and skin punctures competently and expediently. Performs arterial punctures once properly licensed. Documents specimen collection and tests ordered in the LIS. Has thorough knowledge of test requirements. Processes specimens for in-house and sendout testing. Assists with clerical duties as needed. Helps ensure an orderly and sanitary environment in the laboratory.
Properly identifies patients before collecting or accepting specimens.
Properly labels and identifies specimens throughout the workflow.
Knows and follows specimen collection requirements.
Communicates stat or unusual situations to the lab scientist.
Processes specimens promptly and correctly.
Uses the EMR and LIS to manage specimens and orders.
Prioritize tasks to speed turnaround of stat and urgent results.
Manages time and tasks to maximize overall efficiency.
Takes an active role in quality assurance and improvement
Performs venipunctures, finger, and heel sticks
Qualifications & Skills NEW GRADS WELCOME: High school graduate or equivalent with California Phlebotomist license (CPT I) required. Certified Phlebotomy Tech II (CPT II) license required within one year ( 1040 hours) of employment and training will be provided. Must be able to effectively communicate in English, both verbal and written. Must have good interpersonal skills and interacts professionally and tactfully with patients, staff, and the general public. Basic computer skills required.
