Job Description American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit position specializing in post-open heart/thoracic surgery care, requiring EPIC experience and advanced cardiac skills.
Responsibilities
Work in the Open Heart/Thoracic Progressive Care Unit within a hospital setting
Patient population consists of individuals post-heart or thoracic surgery
Staffing ratios are 1:4 to 1:5, with a goal of 4:1 but consistently working at 5:1
Utilizes remote telemetry and cardiac monitoring equipment
Night shifts, 3x12 hours (6:45 p.m. – 7:15 a.m.), with 4x12s available upon request
Must work either every other weekend or six weekend shifts in a six-week block
Floating required within skillset
EPIC EMR experience required
Responsible for cardiac and respiratory management of post-surgical patients
Duties include activation of Rapid Response and Code teams as necessary
Cardiac drip administration may include a variety of medications without titration
Work alongside a trauma resident and mid-level provider on the unit
Tele sitting is implemented for remote telemetry monitoring
Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
RTO requests must be included at submission; Christmas RTO cannot be approved
Locals are accepted and first-time travelers considered based on experience
Dress code and orientation will be communicated upon assignment
Requirements
Active VA or compact RN license required; pending license accepted if from non-compact state
Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
Experience in post-open heart or thoracic surgery patient care required
Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia management
Experience with IV therapy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
Ability to manage cardiac drips and provide non-invasive respiratory support
Minimum preferred experience in facilities with 250 or more beds
Must be able to provide two references for consideration
