Staff Nurse - Orthopedics, Trauma, Spine Unit (3RC) - 90% Day Shifts

In April 2023, our acute orthopedics unit (3RCP) expanded to become a 48‑bed adult surgical unit focusing on orthopedics, trauma, and spine patients. During this exciting time of unit growth we are looking for motivated individuals passionate about the quality of care they provide.
Our Orthopedics, Trauma, Spine unit believes it is our responsibility to provide patient‑centered care that enables our patients and their families to cope with the physiological and psychological aspects of their illness or injury. Exceptional care embodies excellent clinical skills and compassionate care to achieve maximum quality of life.

Unit Staff Provides Care for Patients Who Experience:
Traumas/Orthopedic Injuries (motor vehicle accidents, fractures, skeletal traction, etc.)
Reconstructive joint surgery (hip, knee, shoulder)
Osteosarcoma removal and reconstruction
Hand surgery
Foot and Ankle surgery
Amputations
Sports injuries
Characteristic Duties of our Staff Nurses include but are not limited to:
Applying nursing theory to assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
Assessing patient health‑care preferences and expectations.
Collaboration to coordinate the continuum of care across settings.
Developing patient‑care plans based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic factors that prescribe interventions to attain expected outcomes.
Implementing patient‑care plans according to patient priorities, documenting interventions and patient/family response.
Integrating contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary care plans.
Coordinating and implementing transfer/discharge planning throughout the episode of care.
Implementing nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Follows universal precautions.
Percent of Time:
90%, 36 hours per week Schedule:
Day shifts, weekend and holiday rotations as assigned Location:
Regular salaried position located in Iowa City, Iowa Salary:
Minimum $61,183 at 100% effort (may vary based on years of experience and percent effort)
SEIU Pay Plan:
https://hr.uiowa.edu/pay/pay-plans/seiu-pay-plan Pay Differentials:
Shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Premium pay for additional shifts > 4 hours. Inpatient differentials up to $5,000 per year based on percent time

Education Required:
Associate’s Degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing, Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA).
Experience Required:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members.
General computer skills, including proficiency in managing multiple databases and Microsoft Excel.
Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire.
Desirable Qualifications:
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is highly desired. If not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.
