The 61st Street Service Corporation, provides administrative and clinical support staff for

ColumbiaDoctors . This position will support ColumbiaDoctors, one of the largest multi-specialty practices in the Northeast. ColumbiaDoctors’ practices comprise an experienced group of more than 2,800 physicians, surgeons, dentists, and nurses, offering more than 240 specialties and subspecialties.

Job Summary The MOHS Histotechnologist supports the Director of Dermatologic Surgery and reports to the Lead Mohs Histotech. This role is crucial to the Mohs lab workflow and involves assisting the physician with patient care by processing tissue samples. Key responsibilities include embedding, microtomy, staining, grossing, and general tissue processing. The Histotechnologist is a vital team member responsible for ensuring the efficiency and rapid turnaround of all histology samples. They will collaborate closely with the Lead Mohs Histotech to maintain optimal quality control and accurate processing, thereby supporting the Department's clinical care, research, and education goals.

Job Responsibilities

Freezing and staining frozen tissue sections and cutting with the cryostat

Labeling, filing and storing slides

Prepares inventories and handles solutions and reagents used in the Mohs lab

Disposing stains and cleaning glass containers

Assists laboratory management in maintaining Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Program (CLEP) requirements to maintain laboratory permit

Maintaining and recording daily temperatures of the cryostat

Maintaining laboratory record keeping; helps update Standard Operating Procedure Manual (SOPM) and daily log books

Participating in studies by maintaining proper records

Ensuring a safe environment in the lab in accordance with OSHA standards (i.e. changing fume hood filters, safety glasses, gloves, etc.)

Covering Mohs histotech in lead histotechs absence

Performing other related duties necessary for laboratory compliance with regulatory agencies

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or High School diploma with an equivalent of histotechnical education, training, and work experience required

Minimum 2 years of experience in a MOHS lab required

Certification required in MOHS histology required

Licensed by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED) as a Histotechnologist, Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Technician, or Pathologist’s Assistant required

Must be able to work independently and accurately in a fast-paced, action-oriented environment

Hourly Rate Ranges: $45.91 - $62.76

Note: Our salary offers will fall within these ranges based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, skill set, training and education.
