Duke Regional Cardiac Sonographer – Duties and responsibilities of this level encompass routine and advanced cardiac ultrasound examinations, application of all necessary echocardiographic techniques, and provision of comprehensive support to clinical staff. Shift and Schedule

Shift: 7:30 AM – 4 PM, Monday‑Friday. Call: one evening per week, every 6 th

weekend, one‑hour call requirement; holidays rotate as needed. Commitment bonus: $10,000. Relocation assistance available for relocation greater than 50 mi. Experienced cardiac sonographers preferred. General Description of the Job Class

Perform daily clinical operations of echocardiography, including performing echocardiograms, entering preliminary interpretations, covering all sites and shifts, and providing call coverage. Duties and Responsibilities by Level

Level I:

Demonstrates proficiency in routine and emergency echocardiograms such as 2D, 3D, Doppler, transesophageal, and stress studies, operating equipment, maintaining devices, performing preventive maintenance, preparing preliminary reports, participating in quality improvement, and supporting a collaborative work environment. Level II:

Performs advanced cardiac ultrasound services, manipulates echocardiographic images for real‑time and off‑line analysis, assists physicians with guided studies, serves as a resource and preceptor, onboards new sonographers, and functions as site charge sonographer, supporting quality assurance initiatives. Level III Clinical Focus:

Performs advanced cardiac ultrasound services including congenital, myocardial mechanics, 3D imaging, and stress studies, instructs other sonographers, conducts quality assurance to ensure data completeness, formulates exam protocols, provides in‑service education, and maintains laboratory policies in collaboration with management. Education Focus:

Leads clinical instruction within the department, participates in clinical education for students, residents, and fellows, assists in research studies and new technique implementation, and collaborates on quality measures. Clinical Lead Focus:

Supervises, directs, coaches, and mentors staff; evaluates and provides feedback; directs orientation; maintains equipment status and preventive maintenance; ensures compliance with policies; assists with personnel functions and scheduling; facilitates departmental operations and professional development. Required Qualifications

Education:

Graduate or completion of a program meeting registry or certification eligibility, or currently holds required registry or certification. Experience:

None beyond the required education/certification. Level I:

Must obtain ARDMS certifications as required within 18 months of employment. Level II:

Minimum of two years’ experience as a sonographer. Level III:

Minimum of four years’ experience within the specialty modality for promotion. Certifications:

ARDMS/CCI certification in Echocardiography, within 18 months of hire; BLS certification. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
