Within the scope of rehabilitation services, the Physical Therapy Aide assists the physical therapist, physical therapist assistant, occupational therapist, speech and language pathologist, audiologist, and rehab doctor in the delivery of patient care by performing clerical duties including but not limited to assisting in patient departmental registration and non‑clinical duties including but not limited to preparation of the treatment area and transporting patients to and from the department.
Responsibilities
Prepare and transport patients and equipment to and from the department and other areas of the hospital using proper procedure and good mechanics.
Perform errands, messenger duties, answer telephones and record messages as instructed.
Assist therapists, therapists assistants, audiologist and physician with patients during treatment and testing, making them ready for treatment and testing as instructed.
Attend to patients regarding their comfort and personal needs during treatment and testing sessions.
Assist patients with ambulation and transfer during treatment and testing sessions.
Maintain an accurate laundry count within the department; order laundry as needed.
Perform cleaning duties on all department equipment and treatment areas in accordance with the policy and procedure manual and infection control standards of care, keeping documentation within the department.
Maintain the temperature log of hydrocollator units, paraffin, freezer, and other equipment per policy and document/report problems immediately to the supervisor.
Initiate work order requests for repairs and scheduled maintenance and inform the supervisor immediately.
Assist with general receptionist support functions of the department, ensuring accurate and timely departmental communication and a positive presentation.
Answer phones within 3 rings daily, screen and refer incoming calls to appropriate team members or destinations, providing routine information as authorized.
Assist with obtaining insurance verification at the request of a therapist.
Assist with outpatient scheduling, calling patients to remind them of scheduled appointments, and providing instructions regarding registration procedures and the need for a signed prescription from a physician.
Assist in initiating department registration processes, including obtaining patient ID, insurance information, and valid prescription for scanning or copying and placing in the patient file; assist patients in completing medical history questionnaires and other applicable forms; provide patients with the attendance policy agreement.
Assist in preparing patient charts and verifying/entering requested patient information in the electronic documentation system.
Use knowledge of the scheduling system to assist in overall operations and workflow of the department.
In the absence of a secretary, assist the physiatrist with clerical duties and patient care needs as requested.
Attend and demonstrate compliance with mandatory educational and safety requirements, including Fire/Life Safety; Corporate Compliance; Cobra (EMTDA); Standard Transmission Precautions; OSHA/HCS/TB and Bloodborne Pathogens; Emergency preparedness; Advance Directives; and other department‑specific programs required for performance of the job.
Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
On‑the‑job training, preferably six months in patient care areas.
Manual and mechanical dexterity; stamina for lifting.
Compensation Minimum rate of
$17.38 per hour .

Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered.
Some jobs may also be eligible for performance‑based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
