Job Summary
Assists the providers with the assessments of patients' needs and care plan by taking vital signs, patient history, medication listing, and determining chief complaint. Assists the providers with medical treatment, exams, and medical procedures. Prepares equipment and room for patient visit/procedure and completes documentation using electronic medical records (EMR). Administrative duties may include appointment scheduling, patient registration, and insurance verification.
Responsibilities
Performs initial assessments of patients. Measures vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and documents all information in the patient's chart.
Verifies patient information. Reviews and/or records medical history.
Prepares laboratory specimens. Performs basic laboratory tests on the premises.
Administers medications. Authorizes drug refills as directed. Draws blood and performs EKGs.
Keeps exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies. Maintains instruments and prepares sterilization as required.
Complies with all standard OSHA policies and procedures.
Educates patients by providing medication and diet information and instructions.
Generates revenue by recording billing information of services rendered. Completes insurance forms and responds to insurance and other third‑party inquiries.
Maintains logs and required checks (refrigerator temperatures, oxygen, expired medications, etc.).
Performs administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, referrals, registration, and insurance verification as needed.
Performs essential duties in emergencies such as hurricanes, public health emergencies, and other university emergency closures. The employee is expected to report to work as needed during university emergency closures with appropriate notification of a department administrator.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
CPR/Standard First Aid Certification.
Graduate of an accredited medical program (e.g., MA, CNA, CCMA, EMT, LPN).
